Blu-Ray over HD-DVD?
With the rumors of the X-Box 360 "Elite" system confirmed, it seems that Microsoft is allowing consumers to choose between the HD-DVD drive, or an alternative. It seems that alternative may be Sony's Blu-Ray. Seems Blu-Ray is winning this format war, with Blu-Ray selling twice as much as HD-DVD, so it seems that Microsoft is giving in...
Will Apple take over the world?
Ok, is Apple taking over the world of electronics? First, they try to copyright the look of their interface, then we got the iPod, iPhone (coming soon), and what's next: the Apple TV. Will this be replacing all of our DVD players and Dish TV? With a 40GB hard drive, you could store up to 50 hours of 640x480 video.“Apple TV is like a DVD player for the Internet age—providing an easy and fun way to play all your favorite iTunes content from your PC or Mac on your widescreen TV,” said Philip Schiller. Let's see how successful this device will be...

What the outcome of the Viacom v. Google lawsuit might cause???
So, since I have a video clip of South Park on my Myspace, will I get sued? It seems that myspace videos now have more clips from Viacom owned material than Youtube, since it's not Myspace getting sued for this, so will Myspace have to get rid of these video clips if Youtube does end up paying the $1 billion? This kind of stuff is changing everyone's online experience drastically, and why is copyright such a major issue???

Redesign for the PSP
Well right now I own the Orignal Nintedo DS, (the fat one, not DS-Lite), and I also own the current PSP (soon to be redisgned!). Yeah this sucks because it will mean that I will own the outdated version of the PSP, lame. With my luck they will redesign the Wii, and once I buy a PS3, they will probably have a new design in the works. My point is, don't buy a videogame system when it first comes out, because they will probably improve on the design of it in the near future. News on the new PSP

Say Goodbye to Your Rabbit-Ear TV Receivers
On Feb. 19, 2009, Rabbit-Ears will be extinct. After the 2009 superbowl, all analog tv's will no longer receive a signal. Don't worry though, becuase the Government will help pay for your digital upgrade, according to the news. The NTIA is working on helping those who need it by giving them coupons. With over 20 million Americans using free aired signals, this will cost alot of money!

Youtube/Google sued for copyright infringement!
Youtube and Google are being sued for $1 billion by Viacom Inc. for copyright infringment. Viacom, a big cable TV company including Comedy Central, VH1 and Nickelodeon, is sueing Youtube for not taking down over 100,000 unathorized clips. This fits directly with what we have been talking about in our MM 352 class about copyright. Guess we will have to wait and see what the outcome will be for this case. Read more HERE
What is Second Life?
I was over at a friends house one day, and he was on his computer playing some game. "What the hell is this?" I asked as he walked into some XXX club. "It's Second Life, haven't you heard of it?" he said. Oh yeah... Second Life, I remembered my multimedia teacher at EOU talking about it. Seemed interesting, but I never got into it. Supposedly it's free to download, but it takes real money to get money in the in-game world. What a clever marketing scheme, I thought to myself. There are over 4 million users currently on Second Life, crazy.
Maybe I would get into this if I wasn't so busy with college, and real-life, but for those of you who aren't busy, you should check it out... Second Life

Myspace vs. Facebook
Yeah, one night me and a friend were arguing about which was better: Myspace or Facebook. He claims Facebook is so great because of all of the things you can do on it that you can't with Myspace. He says you can post comments on a friends "wall", but you can do the same on Myspace! And he says how great it is because friends can tag pictures in your photo albums. Then he keeps going on about how Facebook is so great, showing me all of it's features and boring me at the same time. Well, a few days later i made my own Facebook profile... and it is so bland! At least with Myspace you can customize the look-and-feel of your page, every persons Facebook looks the same. It could also be a bad thing that Myspace allows users to add videos, animations, music, just about anything else you can slap on there with html code, because users of Myspace usually add as much junk as they can to their Myspace, which can look very bad, and is a good example of bad website design.
Since I have a profile on both, I think my opinion is stronger than his...HAHA!
So I guess it's whatever you prefer, but I think I'll stick with myspace...

Nissan or Infiniti Skyline GT-R???
As you probably already know, I'm a car guy. I like cars, especially those from Japan. So I have been keeping myself updated on all the new cars that will be made into production in the near future. One that I'm excited about is the new Nissan Skyline GT-R, which most people know, haven't been sold in American dealerships ever before. This new model will though, but now they are deciding whether it should be badged an Infinit or a Nissan... Read more...

Future Toyota Hybrid Sportscar?
Yeah, this is probably a few months old, remember reading about this during newyears, but its seems pretty interesting.

The concept hybrid-sportscar, from Toyota, with a V6 3.5L engine with approximately 400 horsepower. I've never really been that interested in hybrid cars, to me they just seemed boring and slow, but this hybrid seems to have been designed for speed, not so much concerned with gas-mileage. Estimated miles-per-gallon is 30 or so, from what I've read, and the price of this car should be around $30,000. Pretty cheap for a hybrid with alot of power. Guess we will have to wait and see what the future of this concept will be.

About "participatory" media
While reading the article on We Media, I thought of the many "participatory" websites I have visited. Wikipedia has been one of the most useful websites for me in research for classes. Probably not such a good idea, because the information is coming from participants that aren't exactly "professional".
My dad, a farmer, was looking at wikipedia one day and was reading up on "Caterpillars", you know, the machine, not the bug. Anyways, he has lived on a farm most of his life, so he knows alot about caterpillars, especially since he owns about a million books about farm equipment. When he was reading the article in wikipedia, he noticed that all the information was wrong, the first thing he said was "These people have no idea what they are talking about", and he was probably right because anyone could be giving the info, even people uneducated in the subject.
This makes me wonder is this whole participatory media is such a good thing, becuase alot of the info could be false. What do you think about this?!

my first blog-ps3
Alright, here's the deal: my brother wants me to pay for half the cost of a PS3, because he wants one so badly for some reason. I'm alright with paying half for the system, this is what we did when we bought the Nintendo Wii. But is it worth the $600? There is currently only one game worth playing, Resistance: Fall of Man, but it's all sold out at Wal-Mart, and I doubt any of the other games for the system at this point are worth the $60 dollar pricetag. I wouldn't want to buy the system and have it sit there for months while waiting for some hot title to come out.
Besides the underwhelming titles currently available for the PS3, there have been rumors of a price drop in the near future. Prices for the 20GB will or already have dropped in Japan, maybe eventually in the US, but I personally wouldn't settle for the 20GB PS3 since my house is all ready for online play(wi-fi). So what am I waiting for???
I guess what I'm waiting for is the "I bought my PS3 for this game" title. Will it be Metal Gear Solid 4, Gran Turismo,or Final Fantasy XIII? Well I've never been an Xbox guy, so I will probably end up purchasing the overly priced PS3. But is it overly priced? It's actually one of the cheapest blu-ray disc players, and actually one of the best blue-ray players, and stand-alone units sell for $1000. So if you were planning on watching your movies in blu-ray, a PS3 would be the best option, besides it's not-so-user-friendly interface, as some would call it.
Anyways, someone leave a comment and let me know what you think about the PS3, maybe you will convince me not to buy one, but you probably won't. I'll probably buy one as soon as Final Fantasy XIII is released anyways.
